Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (Level 3)

The aim is to provide the learner with the knowledge that will enable them to: • Understand your own role, responsibilities and the boundaries of those in relation to teaching • Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches for the context of flexible learning in your specialist area • Demonstrate session planning skills • Demonstrate how to provide inclusive sessions which motivates learners • Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping

Who is this for?
Anyone who is considering or starting a teaching or training career in the adult learning world (teachers, tutors, trainers, facilitators, instructors, lecturers, practitioners). From September 2007, all new entrants to teaching in the FE sector will be required to complete a new award which will prepare them to teach. PTLLS will be mandatory for any new teacher who teaches publicly funded provision and by 2010 all those in receipt of government funding who teach will have to be qualified.

Delivery Method
Distance learning - a tutor/assessor visits the place of work at a time convenient to the learner. The assessor/tutor will support the learner throughout the duration of the course. The learner will complete activities and assignments in order to successfully complete the course.

• CTLLS - Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector level 3 / 4 • DTLLS - Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector level 5
 
Additional Information
This qualification meets the LLUK's basic minimum standard for those entering the lifelong learning profession from 2007 and confers a threshold licence to teach. This unit is worth 6 credits on the Qualifications Credit Framework. Generally, government funding for all NCC courses covers a considerable contribution towards the following costs: Workbooks, Assessor Support, Certification/ Accreditation.
